For Authors
Young Press is NOT accepting new authors at this time.
That said, we want to point out that there are three cornerstones to success in book publishing.
The book has to have good content. That means an engaging story for fiction, or useful information for non-fiction.
The book needs to be well edited to present that content in the best manner possible.
The book needs to be marketed so it will sell. If you are lucky, you will find someone else to do that part for you. If not, expect to put as much effort into marketing as into writing and editing.
Here are some types of editing that should be done, where applicable.
Uniqueness search - What published books are most similar to this one?
Copy editing, such as gramma-mar, spellllling, and pun-ctuation?!.
Developmental editing, such as identifying plot holes, lore inconsistencies, pace, and character development.
Line editing for voice and clarity.
Fact checking for non-fiction. For a memoir, we might leave it as written, implying "This is how I remember it".
Consistency editing - Did the character's eye color change between chapters?
Editorial assessment - Did we like it?
Proofreading - One last pass, particularly looking at formatting, page numbers, index, title page, copyright page, etc. Is every acronym defined the first time it is used?
Illustrations and cover art.
Marketing description - How you describe the book on Amazon, etc
